For over 15 years, True Music Studios has been a home for aspiring musicians across Rhode Island and beyond. We’re not a franchise or a big-box music store with lessons in the back. We’re a professional music studio where musicians come to create, and where children and adults learn from instructors who genuinely love what they do.

When you step into our facility, you’re surrounded by the same instruments, equipment, and creative energy that professional artists use to record their albums. This matters because learning music is more than scales, theory, songs, and notation. It’s about feeling inspired to play.

As our students progress, some choose to take the next step and record their music in our professional studio, just like you’ll hear in the video below.

One on One Lessons for Every Age & Skill Level

Adults: We work with complete beginners, returning musicians who played years ago looking to get back into it, and advanced players looking to sharpen their skills. No matter where you’re starting from, we’ll help you get where you want to be.

Kids & Teens: We understand what it takes to keep younger students engaged, motivated, and enjoying their progress. We meet them where they are, whether that means learning parts of songs they love from Spotify and YouTube, or diving deep into music theory for students who want to understand the “why” behind the music.

Voice Lessons: The vocal cords are muscles that need to be developed thoughtfully. Our voice lessons focus on breath control, pitch accuracy, vocal range, diction, and confidence. Whether you’re preparing for auditions, interested in musical theater, or just want to sing with ease, our instructors customize every lesson to your goals.

Instruments we Teach: Guitar (acoustic and electric), Piano, Bass, and Ukulele. We also teach Audio Production Techniques and Songwriting.

After a glowing review from a friend at work, I decided to contact the folks at True Music Studios for singing lessons. I was in choirs off-and-on from childhood through my college years. After school, a medication changed my vocal cords, and I've struggled for many years to easily produce notes. I also knew I always struggled with proper breath support, so there is an extra layer to my challenges. My first contact was with Nolan, the owner,  explaining my situation, who promptly responded to my inquiry, and set me up for lessons. I decided on weekly, hour-long sessions & meet with Jeanne. Although we both laughingly acknowledge that I'm a challenge (I'm also a chronic over-thinker), Jeanne employs a variety of stretches, warm-ups, & visualization techniques to try to help me find my way to well-supported, unforced vocalizations. (After a few months of lessons, it's still a work-in-progress, but I definitely feel like I'm getting there). I am asked to choose songs to work on, and between singing along with recordings of the artists, and her figuring out chords to accompany me in the melody, I am challenged to learn each song, then sing with just the music. The lessons are paced to meet my needs, and although the journey is challenging, it is at my pace and comfort level. You get out as much as you put in to these sessions, so I try to practice at home between lessons to strengthen my skills, and facilitate my development. The team at True Music Studios really has your best interests at heart, and truly work with you to meet your goals. They share the joy of your development, and are both encouraging and supportive, finding ways to help you work through your individual challenges, and celebrating your successes. TRUE MUSIC STUDIOS IS THE BEST MUSIC STUDIO IN SMITHFIELD! I have been attending this amazing studio for almost 5 years now, and it has continued to serve, teach, and extend the reach of my musical experience. My son has had a great experience learning guitar with Nolan at True Music. He was a complete beginner and I have watched him progress so much with his lessons. Nolan has been very supportive and gives excellent, clear instruction. He has helped my son build skill,  confidence and continued interest in guitar. Nolan at True Music is a fantastic teacher!  He is very knowledgeable, patient, and makes learning enjoyable.  My son has been taking guitar music theory lessons for over a year now and each time he comes home he immediately wants to share what he was taught and how he can utilize it when he plays. Over the course of several years, my three children had the privilege of studying voice, piano, and guitar under the guidance of Kate and Nolan. I’ve been taking voice lessons here for over 2 years now with Mrs Kate Mills and she is amazing! She really takes time to make her students feel comfortable and really educates and explains her methods of teaching. Studio Owner Nolan is also incredible and provides countless opportunities for the studio! One of the coolest things (in my opinion) about the studio is the opportunity to witness and experience a professional recording studio! I would give even more stars if I could! These are the most friendly, knowledgable, and passionate people I could have ever hoped to work with. As someone who has struggled with confidence when singing, I have never felt better than I do right now and I am treated with respect and have loads of fun every time I go in for a lesson.
